Wow, we are 5 months into this project where we are attempting to release 1 song per month. I’ve been working closely with Phil Lawson (brilliant engineer/producer and seriously nice guy) as we try to keep the creative juices flowing. Songs so far have used a wide variety of singers & players in an attempt to honour & highlight some of the amazing talent that I have been fortunate to walk alongside. Although this is not by any means a comprehensive collection of that talent; that would take many, many more years. I hope that you find today’s offering a suitable addition to the clan.
Introducing Annie Mac

When it comes to long suffering, loyal friends there’s not many on my list that would rank higher than Annie. When I look back at the paths Ive been on throughout my life, Annie’s name keeps cropping up. Business partner, community co-conspiritor, music buddy, joke groaner & joke competitor; I could go on. I reckon we’ve been friends for around at least 45 years. When it came to recording today’s song, I could hear Annie’s voice and unique interpretation all over this. She didn’t disappoint.

This song could easily be seen as a lament. It’s me trying to get my head around the experience of loss in the midst of a world that just keeps on turning; the juxtaposition of narratives such as wisdom gained & wisdom lost, standing up straight with a low heart and so on. It may seem like a sad song but that’s not necessarily the central idea. It has forward motion as well. It reminds me of stepping onto your front porch on a cold wet night. You stand under the cover of the verandah just long enough to acclimatise yourself, then you button up your jacket, pull your hat down tight and step out into the cold night air and get on with your journey.

I don’t often do this but today it’s more than appropriate that I do
This song is dedicated to the memory of some special people; Julie, Kellie, Ruth, Dave Waters & Murray Powers. Special people missed by all who knew them.
